Catherine Coulter (She/Her/Hers) leads Dentons Ottawa’s Employment and Labour group, positioning the team as one of the most highly regarded in the nation's capital. With more than three decades of experience in employment law and litigation, Catherine guides clients through the entire spectrum of employment relationships, from start to end, handing day-to-day human resource challenges and resolving employment disputes. Drawing on her extensive litigation expertise and practical know-how, Catherine proactively anticipates, addresses and resolves issues before they occur.
Catherine represents and advises employers in a wide variety of sectors, with a particular focus on the technology sector, navigating the unique challenges faced by high-growth companies. Her areas of expertise also include workplace disability and accommodations, executive arrangements, Board governance, and employment issues in business transactions and reorganizations.
Catherine is a sought-after thought leader and speaker at a variety of events and programs, and has played a pivotal role spearheading many of the National Employment and Labour group’s publications and weekly webinars. She previously served as the Dentons Canada lead for the global Employment and Labour group, showcasing her exceptional leadership in shaping international legal standards for the Firm.
Catherine consistently exemplifies a commitment to legal excellence, a distinction acknowledged through her recognition from The Best Lawyers in Canada and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory. She was named “Lawyer of the Year” in Ottawa by Best Lawyers for Labour and Employment Law (2025). She has also been named as a finalist for the Women in Business Law Awards (Americas) 2022 in the employment lawyer category.
Beyond her legal practice, Catherine is dedicated to modelling a workplace that gives back. She is the former Ottawa office Pro-Bono Committee Lead and former Ottawa Belonging Team (IDEA) Lead. Catherine’s pro-bono work in 2020-2021 for UN Women resulted in Dentons’ recognition for Pro Bono Initiative of the Year at the 2021 Canada Law Awards.
